Paul S. Gomez Sr.

Obituary Condolences

Longtime resident Paul S. Gomez, age 84, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011. He was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Tularosa to Frank and Vicenta Gomez.
He served in the Army during World War II and retired after 36 years from civil service at Holloman Air Force Base. He was an active member of the American Legion and VFW Post.
Paul lived a very full life. He loved being outdoors, enjoyed camping, hunting and horseback riding, and was often referred to as "John Wayne." Age robbed him of that so he lived vicariously through others, always waiting to hear their stories and reminiscing about his.
He touched many lives with a smile on his face, his door always open and a meal always served. He loved helping people, and family was everything to him. He will be missed.
Paul is survived by his daughters Annette Mathena and husband, Dan, and Linda Orphan and husband, Steve; son Chris Gomez and wife, Gwen; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Esther Herrera; and brothers Raymond, Johnny and Freddy Gomez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Vicenta; his son Paul Jr.; and his brothers Frank Jr., Ralph and Alex.
One of Paul's favorite quotes was "Don't Worry, Be Happy." Please join us in the celebration of life on his farewell journey to join his family who were waiting with open arms.
The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the church at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, with Father Max Hottle, O.F.M., as celebrant.
The Gomez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
