Retired Air Force master sergeant
Master Sgt. Paul Winkler was born Nov. 17, 1929, in Danville, Ill., and passed away in San Antonio, Texas, Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the age of 78. Paul served his country proudly in the Air Force for 21 years and 25 years with the civil service. He worked at Randolph Air Force Base, where he later retired.
He was surrounded by his loving family that was at his side - his loving wife of almost 55 years, Kathleen "Kay," three daughters; Geneva Winkler, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Teresa Akers and husband Charles, of San Antonio, and Rowena Cady, of Alamogordo; son Paul Winkler II, of Chicago; eight grandchildren, Sean and Matthew Akers; Angela, Kobe, Kaylyn and Devyn Winkler; and Reese and Riley Cady; and brothers Lyle, Dale, David and Virgil Winkler. He was loved by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Viola and Coleman Winkler, and sister Patricia Accord.
Visitation was held at the River City Funeral Home in San Antonio April 28. Funeral services was held at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery April 29, with full military honors.
