Peggy L. Schmidt Dutra, of Alamogordo, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, in Alamogordo.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Dutra, of Alamogordo, and twin sons, Lamont and Lance. Lamont and his wife, Kate, reside in Old Town, Maine, with their son Ian. Lance and his wife, Robin, reside in Dallas, Ga., with their children, Bryan and Bonnie.
She is also survided by grandsons Jonathon, Christopher and graddaughter Jennifer, all of Canada; Brothers Joseph Jr. Schmidt and his wife, Dottie, of Kentucky, John William (Billy) and his wife, Betty, of Marietta, Ga., and Charles Torrence (Skipper) and his wife, Olgna, of Florida; sister-in-law Edna Dutra Deware, of Rhode Island, and best friend Pat Coburn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Olgna Schmidt, of Tampa, Fla.; a very close aunt, Peggy Haynes, of Tampa; and Aunt Gladys and Uncle Stanley Hellabrand, of Florida.
Peggy married her "Mr. Right," Edward Dutra, on Sept. 30, 1957, in Tampa. They spent 30 years in the U.S. Air Force. During the Air Force years, Peggy did a lot of volunteer work as a school crossing guard and family service member on military bases all over the world.
Peggy loved people and had a great sense of humor. She will be missed by all.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel, with Deacon Don Dickman officiating.
The Dutra family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
