Philip D. Sims, 69
Philip D. Sims, 69, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, in Alamogordo.
Mr. Sims was born July 27, 1941, in Vaughn to Floyd Vernon Sims and Carlen Katherine Day Sims. He graduated in 1959 from high school in Portales, attended a two-year electronics school in Lubbock, Texas, and entered the U.S. Army, where he served in the Army Security Agency in Germany.
He married Kay Lively of Ruidoso in 1965. They have two daughters. After his military service, he worked in cable television/communications until his retirement.
He was baptized in 1974 in the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He loved Jehovah's beautiful creations and especially enjoyed spending time outdoors golfing, fishing and traveling.
Mr. Sims is survived by his two daughters, Pam Leon-Guerrera. of Layton, Utah, and Carol Wernsman, of Bakersfield, Calif.; his four grandchildren, Alyssa Leon-Guerrera, Amanda Wernsman, Macey Wernsman and Stephen Wernsman; his brother Gary Sims, of Ruidoso; his sister Sharon Giest, of Tularosa; and nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 1515 Fairview Road in Tularosa. A luncheon will follow at the home of Lance and Robin Giest, 901 7th St. in Tularosa.
The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
