1929 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
Phyllis Ann (Jarrett) Fesmire, 82, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Beehives Homes in Alamogordo following a long battle with lung cancer.
Mrs. Fesmire was born Oct. 30, 1929, in Richmond, Ind., to Clifford and Mary Jane Charles Jarrett. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1946. She completed her training as a registered nurse in Cincinnati, then moved to Galveston, Texas, to work at John Sealy Hospital where she met Air Force 2nd Lt. George Fesmire. Phyllis and George Fesmire were married Nov. 15, 1950, at Langley Air Force Base, Va., and immediately deployed to post-war France. Life in the Air Force took the Fesmires around the world, including Furstenfeldbruck Air Base, Germany; Mather Air Force Base, Calif.; Langley Air Force Base, Va.; and Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., before they settled with their three sons in Alamogordo in 1968. Phyllis worked as a labor and delivery nurse at the Holloman Air Force Base Hospital and later at Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Fesmire was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, George.
She is survived by her sister, Sally (Don) Cook, of Richmond, Ind.; her sons Mark Fesmire, of Anchorage, Alaska, Philip (Cindy) Fesmire, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Courtland (Diana) Fesmire, of Alamogordo; and grandson Bryan Fesmire, of Grand Forks, N.D.
A memorial service will be held at Hamilton Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, with Chuck Moon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Fesmire's family requests donations to be made to the New Mexico State University-Alamogordo School of Nursing scholarship program in her name.
The Fesmire family wishes to thank Dr. Shauna Paylor and her staff, the staff of Beehive Homes and Alamogordo Hospice for the loving care of Phyllis during her illness.
The Fesmire family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
