Phyllis Jeanne Anderson Obituary
Phyllis "Jeanne" Anderson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, surrounded by her loving family and precious dog, Holly Berry, departed her earthly body and walked into the gates of heaven on June 8, 2018, after an arduous battle with cancer.
Jeanne was born to James Otto and Lora Mae Farris Fenimore on October 22, 1930 in a farmhouse on the upper Penasco, about three miles from a little logging town named Marcia, Otero County, New Mexico. She was delivered into this world by an old country doctor that came to the home for her delivery. Jeanne was the number four child to her parents and was the baby sister to brothers; James Farris Fenimore, William Franklin "Frankie" Fenimore, and Norman Ray Fenimore. After work opportunities came to her family, a move was made to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1949.
Jeanne worked all of her life. Coming from a hard-working family during the depression era, each member of the family contributed to the household from an early age. As a result of this upbringing, Jeanne had a very strong work ethic that followed her throughout her career as a bookkeeper at multiple auto dealerships, rarely missing a day of work, until her retirement at the age of 73.
The greatest joy in Jeanne's life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and spent many hours over the stove preparing beautiful meals for her family. She gave her heart and her love to her family through her cooking with many wonderful memories being made while enjoying her famous fried chicken. Her recipes have been handed down through several generations, however, they still never taste quite like those made with her loving hands. Jeanne was also a very accomplished seamstress. When her girls were growing up, she made their clothes and gowns for events. The girls were always proud to wear their new attire, as they were custom, one of a kind garments. When Jeanne stopped making clothing on a regular basis, she began sewing quilts for her family. When recalling the number of quilts she made over the years, the numbers were staggering. Many of those quilts are now lovingly torn and tattered with many years of use. Her great-grandchildren often say they can still smell their Mimi on their blankets. After a couple of her great-grandchildren requested new quilts for Christmas this past year, Mimi worked tirelessly through her illness to get them completed. She finished the last quilt the day before receiving her cancer diagnosis.
Jeanne was known around the area for being a "Law Enforcement Mom." Her children, their spouses, and a number of her grandchildren all proudly became law enforcement officers ranging from city, county, state and federal agencies. She always told stories of "her crew" coming in for a family meal as she chuckled at the weapons being safely secured high above the hands of small children. She said her home was the safest place in Alamogordo when her crew was in the house.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Lonnie J. Anderson (Linda), Donnie T. Anderson (Barbara), Lora N. Peachey (Shem), and Betty J. Thomas; grandchildren, Nikki Addison (Chris), Shem Peachey, Lora Carey (Kyle), Pollyjean Peabody (Greg), Jim Anderson (Sharlene), Bryan Anderson (Sherran), and Josh Anderson (Stacie); great-grandchildren, Hannah and Nathan Addison; Jolene, Brailey and Samantha Peabody; Sydney and Samuel Anderson; Bryce and Caden Anderson; Alayna, Stevie Rose, and Ryver Anderson; sister-in-law, Frances Fenimore; daughter-in-law, Carron Anderson; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and dearly loved friends.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and son, Jonnie R. Anderson.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home in Alamogordo, New Mexico. A reception will follow at the Masonic Lodge at 1100 Vermont Avenue immediately following the service.
