Besides being a supportive wife, loving mother and homemaker, Phyllis was an English teacher. She taught English at Versailles High School in Ohio and at Alamogordo High School and Chaparral Junior High in Alamogordo before retiring in 1978.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Robert Lauver, Hugh Lauver and Glen Lauver.
She is survived by her husband, Emmett, of the family home; three daughters, Mary Leslie Schmitt, of Alamogordo, Sarah Hadfield and husband, Daryl, of Carlsbad, and Margaret Ann "Margy" Schmitt Ajer and husband, Richard, of Spring Valley, Calif.; a son, Philip Schmitt and wife, Darlene, of Point, Texas; grandchildren Carrie (Hadfield) Hodnett and husband John, Matthew Hadfield and wife Kelly, Kelli Schmitt, Andrew (Andy) Schmitt, Katherine (Katy) Ajer, Rebecca (Becca) Ajer and Andrew Ajer; and three great-grandchildren.
