Obituary Condolences

Rev. Pleas Lee Carter, 85, of Alamogordo, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at his home.
Rev. Carter was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Dillwyn, Va., the 11th child of 16 born to Pleasant Lee and Jennie (Mayo) Carter. At the age of 16 he was ordained and was a strong Christian who faithfully served the Lord.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, having served in the Army for 21 years before retiring in 1964 as a master sergeant. Following his military service, he moved to Alamogordo and was a radar technician with RCA Corporation at Holloman Air Force Base until his retirement in 1985. After this time, he handled the financial affairs at TV 63, the local Christian TV station. He was a member of First Assembly Worship Center.
Rev. Carter was a giver, an educator, a storyteller, a soldier and a friend to many people. His home was always filled with the laughter of his children, grandchildren and friends. "Grandpa Carter" had many adopted grandkids that could count on him for a helping hand or a word of encouragement.
He will be truly missed.
Survivors include four sons, Mario Carter and his wife Santos, of Oklahoma City, Miguel Carter and his wife Jackie, of El Paso, Texas, Carlos Carter and his wife Saeko, of Germany, and Robert Carter and his wife Nancy, of Farmington; three daughters, Kaori Sudo and her spouse, of Japan, Vicki Bezio and her husband Tony, of San Diego, and Julia Martin and her husband Michael, of Alamogordo; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dora Williamson, of Philadelphia, and Iona Dalton, of Detroit; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rev. Carter was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers; four sisters; and a daughter, Yvonne Mughni.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at First Assembly Worship Center, 10th Street and Florida Avenue, with Pastor David Crispin officiating.
Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery with military honors to be provided by the Army.
Pallbearers will be Mario Carter, Miguel Carter, Carlos Carter, Robert Carter, Michael Martin, Michael Carter, Ahmad Mughni II and Mario Carter Jr.
Friends may call Sunday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
