R. Winston Monk Obituary
Ronald Winston Monk went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, passing away peacefully at the assisted living Bee Hive Home in Alamogordo. He was born Oct. 14, 1936, in Carlsbad to Lafayette and Louise Monk, who preceded him in death.
Winston was an accomplished electrical engineer in the aerospace industry, working for over 45 years at Hughes Aircraft/Missile Systems and Raytheon Corporation. He held several patents for his designs supporting guided missile programs and frequently traveled internationally for his work. He lived in Arizona and California, but lived most of his life in his beloved state of New Mexico. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1956 and attended New Mexico State University and the University of California, Los Angeles.
Winston was a friendly and outgoing man who rarely forgot a name or face. Above all, he most cherished his role as a provider and family man.
Winston is survived by Rita Monk, his loving wife of 52 years, and daughters Kimberly Monk, of Washington, D.C., and Shelley Monk, of Seattle, Wash. He is also survived by his sister Naomi Morgan (life partner Bill DeMouy), of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister Sharon Duran, of Phoenix; and sister Becky Gallegos (fiancé Chuck Tidwell), of Alamogordo, as well as many adoring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Bryan Lance and sister Betty Jane (Monk) Schoenfeld.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Alamogordo Funeral Home. The family will hold a private burial at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Lilburn, GA 30047, or online at
