Loving father
Raymond Joseph Weitzel, 83, loved by his children and his Lord, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at his home in Alamogordo. He was born on Nov. 12, 1926, in St. Paul, Minn., to Alice and Aloise Weitzel.
He lived in Alamogordo since 1964, working for more than 20 years as a mechanical engineer at the Holloman Air Force Base Test Track. He retired from civil service in 1986. He enjoyed volunteering at the Older Americans Center, was a member of his Neighborhood Watch group and enjoyed Tuesday morning breakfasts with the men from Westminster Presbyterian Church (the ROMEOs).
He is survived by Rita Weitzel, the mother of his children; two sons, Roger Weitzel, of Pueblo, Colo., and Kenneth Weitzel, of Albuquerque; three daughters, Kathy Weitzel Brown and her husband, Jody, of Tupelo, Miss., Lt. Col. Nancy Weitzel Klein and her husband, Jim, of Washington, D.C., and Susie Weitzel Geary and her husband, Bryan, of Alamogordo; nine grandchildren, Heather Brown Miller, of Wamego, Kan., Robert Brown, of Tipton, Ind., David Geary, of Ridgecrest, Calif., Aaron Geary, of Las Cruces, Tim Brown, of Tupelo, Amy Brown, of Tupelo, Matthew Geary, of Alamogordo, Joshua Klein, of Washington, D.C., and Zachary Klein, of Washington, D.C.; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Dehmer and her husband, Ray, of St. Paul, Minn., and Rosemary Brennan, of St. Paul; and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services are at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
The Weitzel family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
