Reba Nell Smith Obituary
Reba Nell Smith was born in Wheeler, Texas, Aug. 10, 1941, to Charley and Rachel Whiteley. She graduated from Kelton High School in 1959 and graduated in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in education from West Texas State University. She taught school in Clayton, Salida, Colo., Dalhart, Texas, and High Rolls.
In 1977, Reba married Dr. Jimmy E. Smith Ph. D. and moved to Alamogordo.
Reba and Jim traveled as much as possible. He passed away in 2004.
She was a member of La Noche Women's Club, P. E.O., Otero County Association of Educational Retirees, Cuba Avenue Church of Christ, and Elks. She served on the Board of Directors for LOCO Credit Union, plays Bunco, cooks and dines with a "Gourmet" group, and traveled whenever she could.
Reba is survived by her son Ladd Smith, his wife, Jennie, and their three children (Cody, Kristen, and Claire) of McKinney, Texas, Her son Darren Smith of Alamogordo and his daughter, Rebecca Smith. She is also survived by her brother, Kenneth Whiteley, and wife Fran and her nieces: Karen Whiteley Yates, Sharon Whiteley, and Keely Whiteley and one nephew Jonathan Whiteley.
She enjoys her many cousins and the super Smith in-laws. Reba's life was filled with many dear friends and family, laughter, good stories and she loved all animals.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Cuba Avenue Church of Christ with Al Maxey officiating.
Interment will take place in Holleyville, Texas.
The family will greet friends from 5p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home.
