Rita Ann Lofton

Obituary Condolences

Cloudcroft resident
Rita Ann Lofton, 62, of Cloudcroft, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at her home with family by her side, following a brief battle with liver cancer.
Rita was born June 21, 1945, in Big Spring, Texas. After graduating from Portales High School, she moved to Carlsbad where she met and married Paul Lofton on Oct. 13, 1990. Soon after, Rita and Paul retired in Cloudcroft.
Cloudcroft is a community that was very near and dear to Rita's heart. She often described Cloudcroft as "paradise." Rita and Paul became affiliated with the Silver Cloud Estates Water Association. Both, recognizing the need for improvement, took an "undependable, troublesome system to one the residents can depend upon day in and day out." Rita provided the Silver Cloud Water Association's day-to-day bookkeeping and bill collecting, as well a complaint management for nearly seven years, from 2000 to 2007.
Rita was a pragmatic individual. She was always helpful with advice without ever being judgmental.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lofton, on July 8, 2002.
Survivors include her son, Troy Dewayne Young and his wife Kristi, of Tucson, Ariz.; her grandson, Troy Allen Young, of Tucson; her granddaughter, Robin Tuesday Young, of Tucson; her brother, Gale Blackwell and his wife Gloria, of Tatum; and her siste,r Betty Crossley, of Hobbs.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Mayhill Church of Christ with Eddy Coleman officiating.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
In light of Rita's love of animals, should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to your local animal rescue.
