Robert Allen Potter Obituary
Robert Alan Potter, born Dec. 18, 1969, passed away at Memorial Medical Center on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, after suffering a massive heart attack while rendering aid during a CMV accident in Las Cruces.
He grew up in Alamogordo and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army.
After his service, Robert returned to Alamogordo, where he worked toward his goal in law enforcement. He was hired seven years ago by the New Mexico Motor Transportation Division and found his true calling. He was a dedicated member of New Mexico's K-9 team.
He was dedicated to his family, job and loyal to anyone he came in contact with. Robert married his best friend, Joanne, in 2008 and in that union was blessed with his stepson Matthew, whom he loved as his own. Robert was also like a father to his nephews Austin and Brian. Robert was selfless, caring and gave everything for everyone. He was a true hero.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Potter; his father, Robert Potter; and his brother Jon Matthew Kellum.
Robert is survived by his wife, Joanne; stepson Matthew Duke; his sister Kristen Huddleston and her sons, of Alamogordo; sister Carolyn Cookson, of Austin, Texas, and her children; brother David Kellum, of Las Cruces; in-laws Joan and Bobby Shepard, of Nashville, Ga.; his sister-in-law Rebecca Shepard-Hill; and brother-in-law Robert Shepard, of Georgia.
Memorial services for Robert Alan Potter will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at the Tays Special Events Center located at 2400 N. Scenic Drive, Alamogordo.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel.
The Potter family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
