Robert Anderson "Bob" Slusher

Obituary Condolences

Retired loan officer
Robert "Bob" Anderson Slusher, 85, of Alamogordo, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009, surrounded by loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter Roberta and husband, Bob Fate; granddaughters Mary Jane and Jennifer; extended family members Leonard and Cheryl Waterworth; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lola and Arlie Slusher, and a daughter, Mary Waterworth.
A farm boy from Ridgeville, Ind., he was born May 30, 1923. He attended school there and was a standout athlete in all sports. Upon graduation from high school, he was drafted for military service and fought in World War II as an Army Air Corps A-20 gunner in the European campaign where he flew 60 missions, serving his country proudly. After the war, he was a crew member on the B-29 while stationed at Walker Army Air Base in Roswell. There he met and married Dorothy Chambers. Still active in sports, he played baseball, softball and basketball for the Walker teams, winning competitions throughout the United States. Bob's aircrew had an active role in the "Roswell Incident" in 1947 and he enjoyed recounting the experience. After leaving the Air Force, he worked as a residential carpenter in Roswell and then became a manager for Foundation Investment Company, which became Blazer Financial, from which he retired in 1985. From his carpentry experience, he developed into an excellent woodworker and loved to restore and refinish antiques, which remained his hobby and avocation the remainder of his life. He and Dorothy were antique dealers for many years in the Alamogordo area. Considered a gentleman by all who knew him, he won their respect and friendship and touched the lives of countless others. He will be dearly missed by family and friends alike. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
