Robert Charles Perkins Obituary

Robert Charles Perkins, Jr. (know as Bob or affectionately as Perk) of Alamogordo passed peacefully in his sleep on June 27, 2014.

He was born March 15, 1934, in Rochester, N.Y., the elder son of Robert Charles Perkins Sr. and the former Audrey Hildegard Miller. He left New York in 1953 and pledged his life to his bride and mother of his 4 children, the former Ruth Carlton of Rantoul, Ill. on June 27. Subsequent to their marriage, Bob honorably served the United States of America in the U.S. Air Force; a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, and was medically discharged in 1966. Bob spent the next 26 years performing government contracting (Reynolds Aluminum, Lockheed-Martin, and Land Air) and civil service work predominantly at Holloman AFB. Bob dedicated his last eight years to public service as a beloved school bus driver for the Alamogordo Public School System.

Bob has been gifted with the love of his second bride, the former Barbara Pierce of Alamogordo. They married on July 25, 1998.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth and nephew Leonard.

Remaining to carry on his memory are Barbara and her daughters Tammie Sanchez and Mario (married 9 years) of La Luz, and Betty Thompson and Ben (married 24 years) of Alamogordo; brother Leonard Perkins of Rochester, N.Y., and Leonard's sons William, Kenny and Jimmy all of N.Y.; sons Robert C. Perkins III and Deanna (married 34 years) of Tucson, Ariz; John B. Perkins and Brenda (newlyweds) of Rio Rancho; George W. Perkins and Myrna (married 32 years) of Lewisburg, Penn.; and daughter Deborah Mae Raighn and son-in-law Gary (married 8 years)of Tehachapi, Calif; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Family is deeper than blood; truly there are so many others that survive who are brothers and sisters.
Bob will best be remembered for his years of service through the Lions Club, his zest for fishing and endless storytelling as confirmed by his devoted lifelong friends Dale and Doyle McMaster.

A memorial service to celebrate his 80 years will be held on Saturday July 5 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 1316 North Scenic Dr.

The Perkins family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
