1926 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Robert Daniel William (Bob) Burns Obituary

Robert Daniel William (Bob) Burns fell asleep in Christ, Dec. 9, 2014, at home in Las Cruces.

We are greatly saddened for our temporary loss, but are comforted knowing there is a coming day when our Master will return and call his servants from the grave. We hope we might all hear those words "well done, thou good and faithful servant."

Bob was born Feb. 27, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Daniel Burns and Vilo Martin. His father was a very skilled mechanic and passed along a love of machines and tools which Bob retained his entire life. He worked enthusiastically on anything mechanical. Bob was most notably generous with his time and expertise.
He was stationed at Holloman Air Base in 1944. While in Alamogordo he met and fell in love with Jane Owens. He learned the truth from Jane, put on the saving name of Jesus through baptism and remained a faithful servant for the remainder of his life. They married May 25, 1946, and raised four children -- Gary, Lynda, Danny and Robyn. Bob and Jane were loving parents who sacrificed many times and in many ways for their children. Bob was an active member of the La Luz Christadelphian Ecclesia. One of his greatest joys was building and working on the grounds of the Pioneer Christadelphian Bible School.
For 30 years he was the Navajo Freight Line, which became Arkansas Best Freight or ABF, terminal manager in Alamogordo. At the same time, he operated his own business, Burns Refrigeration Company. He enjoyed the work and friendships resulting from both jobs.

Bob is survived by his brother Daniel; daughters Lynda (Randy) Vest and Robyn (John) Griffin; daughter-in-law Lindsay Burns; grandchildren Joshua (Marijane) Vest, Zachary (Melissa) Vest, Kristyn Griffin, Ryan (Becca) Griffin, Ashley Burns and Lauren (Sean) Martin, and great-grandchildren Erin and Alexandra Vest, Saydi Griffin, Alanna and Burns Martin.

He is preceded in death by Jane, his wife of 46 years; sons Gary and Danny, and second wife Meril Knight, his loving companion for ten years.

Daddy, Dad, Pa, Papa, Great Papa, you will be deeply and dearly missed.

Visitation at the Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel will start at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Internment will be at Parker Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either: the Pioneer Christadelphian Bible School c/o Foye Wells, 4180 Florida Ave, Alamogordo 88310, the Spina Bifida Association, or the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The Burns family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
