Alamogordo - Robert Drew Barber passed away suddenly on October 27, 2019 while vacationing in Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Mary. Born in Millville, NJ, May 23, 1942 to the late Rexton and Thelma (Carroll) Barber. Bob was a graduate of Millville High School, class of 1961. He moved to Rockledge, FL in 1966 and met Diane, his former wife. In 1978, Bob and his family returned to New Jersey where they resided in Port Elizabeth for 24 years. Bob worked at the Rutgers Haskins Shellfish Laboratory in Bivalve as a Senior Lab Tech of Histology/Pathology and retired in 2002. That same year, he relocated to Jasper, Arkansas where he enjoyed his first 3 years of retirement. He met Mary who lived in Alamogordo, NM online in 2004. After several months of late-night phone calls and emails, he moved to Alamogordo and they were married on May 21, 2005. Bob, known as Drew by many was an avid lover of nature and spent his life dedicated to the study of birds, Herpetology, Odonata, and plant life. Many friends referred to Bob for the identification of all things nature and he would always have the correct answer. Bob was also known for his great photography. He captured phenomenal photos of everything and everyone and loved sharing his talent for all to see Bob is survived by his wife Mary, children; Shelley (Dan) Durand of Fairton, NJ; twins, Allan Barber (Gina) of Port Elizabeth, NJ and Heather Sparks (Clint) of Cedarville, NJ; sister Jean Jones and nephews, Rob and Rich Jones and his two grandchildren Dylan and Courtney and many cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, Rex and Thelma Barber and stepson, John Loudon. Bob loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of New Heart Cowboy Church in Alamogordo where A Celebration of Life will be held on December 3 at 2pm, officiated by Pastor Vic Williford. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the NHCC building fund.
