Robert Duran Jr. Obituary
Robert Duran Jr, 44
Beloved son and brother
Rob was born June 10, 1965, in Wichita, Kan. Shortly thereafter Rob moved to La Luz and grew up with his aunt and uncle Christina and Robert Godby and their children as a beloved youngest son and little brother. He lived a thriving and adventurous life in the small village with many friends and family.
He moved to Van Nuys, Calif., in his junior high years to live with his father, Robert Duran Sr., and stepmother Marga Ward Duran. Exposed to the upbeat L.A. music scene, Rob developed a passion for music and he soon started a long journey as a musician. Eventually he became an integral part of one of L.A.'s favorite local bands, Capital Radio.
After graduating from Van Nuys High School, Rob returned to New Mexico for several years, having missed the desert Southwest. Rob then moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., where he was a certified optician. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Recently Rob had begun writing music and was playing with the rock fusion band Musical Anarchy of Colorado Springs.
Rob's final adventure took him back to Los Angeles, where he unexpectedly passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010, within sight of the Pacific Ocean of which he was so fond.
Rob is preceded in death by his birth mother, his grandparents Manuel and Angela Duran, his uncle Manny Duran and his uncle Robert Godby.
He is survived by his father Robert Duran Sr. and stepmother Marga Duran, of Van Nuys; uncle Louis Duran and wife, Yvonne, of El Paso; uncle Tony Duran and wife, Evelyn, of Las Cruces; uncle Jaime Duran, of Alamogordo; aunt Christina Duran Godby, of La Luz; and cousins he was "little brother" to, Tina Godby Ware, of Alamogordo, Janice Masters, of El Paso, Philip Godby, of Canton, Ohio, Stephanie Yates, of La Luz, and Jeffrey Godby, of Colorado Springs, and their families.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 14, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in La Luz with Fr. Bruce Hausfeld officiating. Interment will be at ICC Catholic cemetery in Alamogordo immediately following.
A reception will be held at the home of John and Stephanie (Sky) Yates, No. 8 Calle Cadena Court in La Luz, immediately after interment.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be sent to The House of Hope Recovery Center, 1309 Michigan Ave., Alamogordo.
