Robert L. Gilmore Obituary
Robert L. Gilmore, 91, of Alamogordo, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Beehive Homes.
Mr. Gilmore was born Sept. 8, 1917, in Columbus, Ind., to Albert and Viola (Butler) Gilmore. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He moved to Alamogordo in 1956. He was a supervisor at the High Speed Test Track at Holloman Air Force Base until his retirement in 1982 from DynElectron. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where, in his later years, he enjoyed helping out in the office, with vacation Bible school and folding bulletins. He loved fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth (Hayden) Gilmore.
He is survived by his daughter Coleba Edwards and husband, Frank, of Orangeburg, S.C.; his son Tom Gilmore and wife, Darlene, of High Rolls; his daughter Becky Lee and husband, Robert, of Alamogordo; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Howell Scott officiating.
The Gilmore family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS and a private inurnment will be at Monte Vista Cemetery next to his wife.
