Robert M. "Bobby" Burnett Obituary
Retired Maj. Robert M. "Bobby" Burnett, 61, passed away suddenly in Greenville, N.C., on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011. Bobby grew up in Alamogordo where he had many friends. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1969 and from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces in 1974 with a degree in business administration. He went into the Marine Corps in 1977 where he became a helicopter pilot. During his career, he had the honor of flying Marine One during two presidential administrations. After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1997 he was a test pilot for Sikorsky Aircraft for 12 years.
He is survived by two sons, Robert "Buck" Burnett, of Edgewood, and Troy Burnett and his wife, Jennifer, of San Diego; a daughter, Shelby Burnett, of Farmingdale, N.Y.; two stepsons, Zachary and Gabriel Revnew; two granddaughters, Emma and Lani Burnett, of San Diego, as well as his mother, Maureen Burnett, of Alamogordo; two sisters, Belinda Fuller, of Reno, Nev., and Cheryl Seppala and her husband, Rodger, of Albuquerque; two nephews, Jason Johnson and his wife, Heather, of Las Cruces, and Steven Seppala, of Albuquerque; and a niece, Jenny Seppala, also of Albuquerque.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Burnett. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is planned for Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Alamogordo Funeral Home on First Street. A flag cordon will be provided by the Patriot Guard Riders.
Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
The Burnett family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
