Robert Raymond "Bob" Thompson Obituary
Robert Raymond "Bob" Thompson, 85, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, in Mescalero. He was born on Saturday, Aug. 21, 1926, in Billings, Mont., to Guy I. and Lena (Cade) Thompson.
The majority of Bob's working career was involved in law enforcement. Bob's early years were as a federal marshal working out of Fairbanks, Alaska.
His second major assignment was as criminal investigator for the Southern Pueblos in New Mexico as well as lead law enforcement officer for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Mescalero. Bob loved to hunt and fish, but couldn't stand not working. After retirement from the BIA, Bob was asked by the late Wendell Chino to head up the law enforcement and the natural resource conservation efforts of the Mescalero Apache Tribe until he retired in 1995. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
Bob moved to Tularosa from Hatch after marrying Esther Riddles Parker of that city in 2007.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepsons Bruce and Babs Parker, of Albuquerque; Jim and Rae Parker, of Mescalero; Steven and Martha Parker, of West Monroe, La.; and Jeffrey and Ashley Parker, of Tularosa.
Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at St. Joseph's Mission, 114 Mission Trail, Mescalero, by Father Paul Botenhagen, O.F.M. The family will greet friends prior to the rosary from 5 to 6 p.m.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at St. Joseph's Mission with Father Paul Botenhagen, O.F.M., as celebrant.
Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
The Thompson family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
