1921 - 2009 Obituary Condolences
Robert W. 'Bob' Bouma, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1979, went home to the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009.
Bouma was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Grinnell, Iowa, where he was a Grinnell College graduate and received a master's degree in music education from the University of Iowa. He began teaching in Iowa and Colorado public schools and retired in Albuquerque after teaching in Alamogordo, Los Lunas and Jemez Springs.
Bouma was a past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 60 and belonged to the Scottish and York Rite Temples. He had been active as a member of the Lions Club and as a Boy Scout leader.
Bouma's hobbies included stamp and coin collecting, miniature train collecting and piano tuning. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jule Bouma; sister Jean Ruth; daughter Linda Kessler and her husband, Mel, of Annapolis, Md.; stepson William Herman; grandson William Bouma and his wife, Renee; granddaughter Shellie Bouma; grandsons Michael and Matthew Kessler; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Ruth.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert W. Bouma, II.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, in Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, Albuquerque.
