Roberta "Bobbie" Larsen Obituary
Roberta "Bobbie" Larsen, 96, of Alamogordo, peacefully passed away at her home on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009.
Bobbie was born in Ellsworth, Minn., on April 22, 1913. Bobbie spent her early life in Minnesota, and at age 28 she met her husband of 54 years, Leff "L.R." Larsen. They were married in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1941 and moved to Alamogordo. They had intended to move back to Idaho after the war, but fell in love with the warm Southwest. Bobbie spent the majority of her life in Alamogordo, which was her home for more than six decades.
Bobbie and Leff owned and operated the Ala Motel (currently the White Sands Motel) for more than 25 years. During those years, Bobbie was an active member of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Alamogordo.
Bobbie was a vibrant, young-at-heart individual with a spirit full of love for life, people and music that radiated and touched everyone she met. She loved to play piano and to entertain. She was frequently called upon to do so at various social functions throughout the Alamogordo area. She would never refuse an invitation to play and sing, and she brightened the day of anyone who heard her.
She continued to delight people with her musical talents, playing piano late into her 80s.
Everyone who knew and loved Bobbie carries a bit of her spirit within them. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Lainee Larsen, of Alamogordo, and Julie Larsen and her husband, Wade Taul, of Albuquerque; and many extended family members.
The mass of creation will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St, Jude Mission, 1404 College Avenue, with Father Thomas W. Hoffman, S.J., as celebrant.
A reception in the parish hall will follow the mass.
Services are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
