Roger Kenneth Parker Obituary
Roger Kenneth Parker entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 20, 2018. He was born December 4, 1941 to Reverend Harvey Kenneth Parker and Mary Bernice Faires Parker. He is survived by his beloved wife Helen Ann Garrett, his daughters, Melissa Allender Nanius (Mark) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Cecily Gray Marcus (Jarod) & granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Marcus of Ft. Worth, TX; his stepson, Chris Garrett (Chadelle) of Simi Valley, CA. He is also survived by his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Mary & Warren Williams of Minnesota/Alamogordo; his niece, Dawn Vissotzky Geckles (Jim) & grandniece Izabella of Keller, Texas; & his nephew Dave Vissotzky (Andrea) & grandnephew Alexander Vissotzky, all of Flathead County in NW Montana.
Roger graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas, Texas. He attended North Texas State University, Southwest Texas State University and he graduated from West Texas A&M. Roger taught school at the Texas State School for Mentally Handicapped and also worked on the Texas State Commission on Alcoholism. He then ran his own construction business for the next twenty years.
Roger was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed sports, shooting, fishing, hunting, gardening, and just being in God's creation. Indoors, his favorite pastime was cooking. Roger was a dedicated parent and family man with a lifetime of service to his fellow man, no matter what walk of life. He was a man who lived by prayer and faith. When it came to praying in a group, Roger was often called upon for his sincere words of guidance, love, wisdom, and faith. He was active in Grace United Methodist Church and was a member of Gideon's International. He was a master gardener and loved watching his work come to fruition. He was active in community gardening & helped get the Alamogordo Community Garden off to a good start. Roger was the director of the soup kitchen, Shared Table. He was a beloved man with a great sense of humanity & humor. He was very involved in this community & will be greatly missed by many.
Roger was preceded in death by his father & mother, as well as his sister, Wilma June Parker Vissotzky, & his brother-in-law Henry Joseph Vissotzky.

A memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Alamogordo on November 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Grace United Methodist Church Shared Table.

The Parker family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. Cremation will take place at PCS.
