Obituary Condolences

Tia Chalia
Rosalia Holguin Vallejo, 97, passed away March 15, 2008, in Alamogordo. She was born Oct. 3, 1910, in El Paso, Texas, to Apolino and Carmen (Chavez) Holguin. Rosalia lived most of her adult life in Los Angeles. She enjoyed helping to raise her niece, Socorro Cooksey of Tularosa, who preceded her in death, and nephew Joe Ortega, of San Diego, who she claimed as her "own." She moved to Alamogordo in May 2006 and resided at the Beehive homes.
Tia Chalia, as she was best known, became the center of our family after the death of our mother. Tia was very special to all who met her. We are blessed by her time with us and her prayers for our lives. Special thanks to Aunt Doris, Nina Cano and Alicia Mendivil.
She is survived by nephew Joe Ortega, of San Diego; nieces Doris Salazar, of Tularosa, Maria Carmen Mercier and husband Bernard, of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; grand-nieces Carmen Marquez and husband Bob, Katherine Lopez and husband Musky, and Suzette Trout and husband Bruce, all of Tularosa, and Patricia Manzanares and Freddie Gomez, of El Paso; grand-nephews Bill Lopez and wife Sharon, of Las Cruces, James Cooksey III, of Tularosa; many nephews and nieces in California and El Paso, Texas; and special friends Nina Cano and Alicia Mendivil.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Enrique Vallejo, son Albert Vallejo; and niece Socorro Cooksey.
Rosary will be recited by Suzette Trout at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at St. Frances de Paula Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at St. Frances de Paula Catholic Church with Father John Peterson, O.F.M.
Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Tularosa.
Pallbearers will include Bill Lopez, Bob Marquez, Fred Gomez, Bruce Trout, James Cooksey III and Ted Cano.
