Roy L. Schuyler Obituary
Roy L. Schuyler, 83, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, in Alamogordo. He was born April 5, 1927, in Durand, Mich., to Lloyd and Beulah (Duley) Schuyler.
Mr. Schuyler honored his country in the Navy during World War II as a seaman. He is a past member of the Evening Lions Club, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Boy Scout leader, Little League coach and a Teen Court coordinator.
Roy owned the Gray Van Moving Co. in Saginaw, Mich., before moving to Alamogordo in 1958. At this time he began working for Raytheon. In 1972, he became co-owner of H&R Automotive, from which he retired in 1997. He then worked part-time for Redburn Tire Co.
Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, his grandchildren, morning coffee with his friends and visiting the casino.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Beulah Schuyler; and brothers Walter, Duane, Dale and Carl.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Paula; four children, Vicki Compton and her husband, Sheldon, of Alamogordo, Guy Schuyler, of Alamogordo, Dawn Danley and her husband, Les, of Roswell, and Diana Schuyler and her companion, David Sanchez, of Roswell; seven grandchildren: Scott Harris, Gina Galindo, Joshua Schuyler, Kendra Cox, Amy Beveridge, Troy Danley and Seth Gilleon; 13 great-grandchildren: Nathaniel, Kylee, Jaxton, Kiera, Garrett, Haley, Dezirae, Jordan, Aubrianna, Baylynn, Tayden, Scarlett and Ryder; brothers Roger, of Colorado, Donald and his wife, Doris, of Durand, Jack and his wife, Beatrice, of Alamogordo, and Larry and his wife, Elena, of Mesilla; and his sister Joan Schuyler, of Birch Run, Mich.
A memorial service was conducted Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at the Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home chapel.
The Schuyler family entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
