Ruby L. Melton Obituary
Ruby L. Melton, 93, passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, in Alamogordo.
She was born June 30, 1917, in Mayhill to Leroy Madison and Pearl (Clark) Stone.
A resident of Alamogordo since 1934, Ruby was a good Christian woman. She worked alongside her husband Henry in many businesses, including a taxi cab company, lumber hauling, a concrete company, a welding business and Melton's Machine Shop. Ruby also taught Sunday School, loved her grandchildren dearly and very much enjoyed hunting, fishing, sewing and canning. The passing of this Otero County pioneer is the end of an era.
Ruby is survived by her son Everett L. Melton and his wife, Sandra, of Alamogordo; her daughter Barbara Perkins and her husband, Bob, of Alamogordo; four grandchildren, Dale Melton and his wife, Leslie, Vince Melton and his fiancee, Liz, Tammie Sanchez and her husband, Mario, and Betty Thompson and her husband, Ben; six great-grandchildren, Brandon Brockett, Jason Brockett and his fiancee, Ronnie, Caitey Thompson, Brianna Thompson, Samantha Melton and Kalen Melton; and three great-great grandchildren, Destiny Brockett, Madison Brockett and Gabriel "Wildcat" Brockett.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Pearl Stone; her husband Henry E. Melton, in 2003; brother Robert Stone; sister Barbara Coble; niece Althea Coble; great-grandson Benjamin Thompson; son-in-law Ray Pierce; and brother-in-law Clifford Coble.
A funeral service for Ruby will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Howell Scott and the Rev. Lester Stone officiating.
Pallbearers include Dale Melton, Vince Melton, Ben Thompson, Mario Sanchez, Brandon Brockett and Jason Brockett. Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Stone, Ernie Stone, Bob Perkins and Johnny Coble.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
