Ruby Ruthena Wingfield Eanes, 86, passed peacefully from this earth to join our Lord after a long illness, on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009. She had been in gentle care from hospice at Casa Arena Blanca for several months, and had lived at Casa Arena Blanca for four years.
Ruby was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Tularosa, the daughter of Rolla Elma and Etta Ella (Lee) Wingfield. She had lived in Tularosa and Alamogordo her entire life. Her home cooked meals were enjoyed by family and friends, recipes passed down through several generations. Her homemade quilts were prized possessions. She was active in the Senior Olympics, winning medals and honors. She enjoyed time spent at the senior center and volunteered her time freely. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alamogordo.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jean Woodall of Alamogordo and Donna Eastes and her husband Bob of Roswell; three sons, Calvin Eanes and his wife, Stevi, of Luray, Va., Walter Eanes and his wife, Joan, of Alamogordo, and Robert Eanes and his wife, Connie, of Alamogordo; 14 grandchildren, Martin Woodall and his wife, Rhonda, Kalin Woodall, Ryan Woodall, Jake Woodall and Joshua Eanes, all of Alamogordo, Michael Eanes and his wife, Marissa, of Manassas, Va., Ty Eanes and his wife, Melissa, of Atocha, Tenn., Cassie Henry and her husband, Michael, of Luray, Va., Warren Eanes and his wife, Kellane, of Denver, Colo., Matthew Eanes and his wife, Christy, of Omaha, Neb., Sarah Dozier and her husband, Shawn, of Las Cruces, Erin Cobos and her husband, Orlando, of Lompoc, Calif., Amanda Bunch and her husband, Randy, of Roswell, and Cindy Thomas and her husband, Joseph, of Wichita Falls, Texas; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter W. "Kink" Eanes, in 1984; five brothers, Buddy Wingfield, Walker Wingfield, Charlie Wingfield, Jack Wingfield, and Bill Wingfield; and four sisters, Susie McNiel, Mary Virden, Elsie DeSmit and Dorothy Buie.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with Dr. Bill Campbell officiating.
Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Martin Woodall, Matthew Eanes, Joshua Eanes, Shawn Dozier, Joseph Thomas and Randy Bunch. Honorary pallbearers will be Kalin Woodall, Ryan Woodall, Jake Woodall, Warren Eanes and Orlando Cobos. Friends may call today from 2 until 4 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
Should friends desire, the family requests that Ruby's life be celebrated with contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, and envelopes are available at the funeral home.
