Lifelong resident
Rudolph "Rudy" Mirabal, 50, a lifelong resident of Alamogordo, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his home due to heart complications. He is now realizing the wonderful joy of being in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Rudy was born Oct. 17, 1957, in Alamogordo to Joseph D. and Miquella (Lucero) Mirabal. He was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was baptized, confirmed and made his first holy communion. He attended Alamogordo public schools and participated in sports with his favorite being track, where he excelled in pole vaulting. He was a popular and well-liked student. He served honorably in the Army from February 1975 to February 1978, with most of his service in Germany from August 1976 to February 1978.
Rudy will be remembered for his likable good nature and humor. He always greeted everyone with a big smile and friendly conversation.
Survivors include four brothers: Johnny Mirabal, who has been Rudy's caregiver and buddy for the past 17 years, Charles Mirabal and his wife Mariaelena, of Alamogordo, Mark Mirabal and his wife Debra, of Las Cruces, and James Mirabal and his wife Connie, of Albuquerque; three sisters, Joann Fuentes and her husband George, of Colorado, Dolly Mirabal, of Colorado, and Ida Moncada and her husband Irving, of California; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A vigil service will be conducted Sunday evening at 7 p.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M. as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery with military honors by the Army.
Pallbearers will be Juan Mirabal, Isaac Mirabal, Adriel Fuentes, Vicente Mirabal, Brian Mirabal and Santiago Mirabal. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Mirabal, Mike Mirabal, Steve Johnson, Daniel Miranda and Davis Melendrez.
Friends may call Sunday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
