Rue Dean "Honey" Sanders, 81, of Alamogordo, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, in Alamogordo.
Mrs. Sanders was born Feb. 7, 1928 in Loraine, Texas to Hanford Hicks and Hattie Cramford (Echels) Copeland. She attended Hardin-Simmons University and lived most of her life in El Paso where she owned and operated the Top Drawer. She was an active member of many civic and church organizations, including the First Baptist Church in El Paso, a past president of the El Paso Junior League, and the El Paso and Alamogordo Garden Clubs.
Survivors include her husband, Billy J. Sanders, of the family home, and his family; a son Hal Dean III and his wife Lisa of Granbury, Texas; two daughters, Denise Thompson and her husband Mark of Flower Mound, Texas, and Ginger Bergman and her husband David of Colleyville, Texas; a son-in-law Bryan Slayton of El Paso; six grandchildren, Justin Thompson of Lewisville, Texas, Parker Thompson of Lubbock, Texas, Taylor Norwood and her husband J.T. of Kileen, Texas, Christie Dean and her finacé Mike Arnett of Nokona, Texas, Kristin Ozuna and her husband Eric of El Paso, and Mark Slayton and his wife Charlene of Silverdale, Wash.; and a great granddaughter Hannah Slayton of Silverdale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Hal "Buster" Dean, in 1995; and a daughter Karen Slayton.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the Cloudcroft United Methodist Church with Pastor Ran Loy officiating.
Committal services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Memory Gardens of the Valley in Santa Teresa.
Pallbearers will be David Bergman, Mark Thompson, Parker Thompson, Mark Slayton, Bryan Slayton and J.T. Norwood.
Friends may call this evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
