Sammy Salazar Obituary

Sammy Salazar, 59, was born on Sept. 28, 1956, to Roy and Carolina Salazar and took his last ride on July 22, 2016.

Sammy attended Alamogordo Public Schools where he was a member of the Rodeo Club and held an RCA (PRCA) card as a bull rider. Sammy was a truck driver for most of his career, but he was also a meat processor and a grounds keeper at many feasts. Sammy enjoyed many things in life but a few of his favorites were hunting, fishing, taking trail rides and above all, spending time with his kids and grandkids. Many would remember Sammy as one who loved riding and raising bucking bulls. Not only did he teach his sons to ride bulls, he was a great teacher for many others. Sammy was loved by so many and will be missed by all.

Sammy is survived by his wife of 35 years, Robin Salazar; his three children, Keresa Jackson and husband Kennerd, Jeremy Salazar and wife Christina, and John Salazar and wife Phoebe; fifteen grandchildren, Lanae, DeAndre and Keanna Daniels, Nakaila, Kylend, Carolina, Jasmine and Jeremiah Jackson, Ciara Lechuga, Dillon, Jacelynn and Kaleah Salazar, Seth Duran, Bryce and Rylee Salazar; three brothers, Raul Salazar, David Salazar and Ricky Salazar and wife Keena; three sisters, Irene Silva and husband Delmar, Nancy Virden and husband Buddy, and Rebecca King and husband Billy; mother and father-in-law, Fred Lloyd and Louise Parker; brother-in-law, Gary Parker; two sister-in-laws, Karen Cunningham and Ronda Norfleet; one godson, Kelsey Coonie. Sammy also had many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Carolina Salazar; one sister, Rita Gallegos; one brother-in-law, Steve Cunningham; and a nephew, Sean Cunningham.

Funeral services for Sammy will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m., with funeral mass to follow at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bent, NM with Father Alex Urena, Celebrant.

Honorary pallbearers include Amador Martinez, Eddie Martinez, Arden Comanche, Michael Garcia, Bennie Carrillo, Sr., Charlie Gonzales, Cloyce Salazar, Eric Chavez, Mike Anthony Aramijo, Carlos Lopez and Tom Skipworth.
