Obituary Condolences

'The Cruzer'
Santa "Cruz" Arana, 79, passed away Nov. 18, 2007, at his home in Alamogordo. He was born in High Rolls Sept. 14, 1928, to Cristobal and Felicia (Barela) Arana.
He served as a Ranger in the Army and after that, made his living for many years as one of Alamogordo's best house painters. His two favorite things were fishing and gambling at the Inn of the Mountain Gods. All of his family and many friends greatly loved him. He was a very funny man, and you would be sure to have a big laugh if you spent any time with him. He was fondly referred to as "The Cruzer."
He married Rosenda Sanchez Oct. 3, 1954, and had six children.
He is survived by two sons, Cruz Arana Jr. and wife Theresa, and Jessie J. Arana; three daughters, Lydia Arana Fazekas and husband Michael, Rebecca Arana, all of San Diego, and Patricia Arana Clay and husband Ronnie, of Pensacola, Fla.; sister Joanne Noel; nine grandchildren: Monica Romero, Michael Randall, Danielle Hurlbut, Michelle Long, Cruz Jose Arana, Michael Arana, Gabriel Arana, Elston John Montgomery and Delicia Reese; and great-grandchildren Destiny Aragon, Elisa and Stephanie Mercado, Austin Long, Landon Cruz Reese, Izzabella Rosenda Reese, Damion and Dean Cadena, and Andrew, Alex and Michael Sanchez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cristobal Arana and Felicia Barela Arana; his wife Rosenda Sanchez Arana; and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Sanchez.
He will be extremely missed by all of his family, and greatly missed by his beloved dogs Sonny, Terrible and Chiquita.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., celebrant.
Cremation will take place locally at PCS entrusted to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
