Sara Jo (Walker) Patterson Obituary

Sara Jo Patterson, 95, passed away on Sept. 25, 2014, surrounded by her family at her home in Sixteen Springs Canyon. She was born on April 23, 1919, in Cloudcroft, to Charlie and Bessie (Wooten) Walker.

Sara Jo got to live an amazing 95 years in Sixteen Springs Canyon, which her grandparents before her homesteaded, pioneered and settled. She lived her entire life on the family ranch.
She passed on it and will be placed to rest on it. She is one of the last of her people who could say they rode wagons and horses not because they wanted to but because they had to. She saw a world go from wagons to rockets, through war and depression, and watched the development of wild and unsettled land.
A century later, she went peacefully in her own home and bed surrounded by her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her brother, and other loved ones.

Survivors include her daughter, Connie Bailey-Mills of Alamogordo; a granddaughter, Stacy (Michael) Aberle of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; two grandsons, Chad (Robin) Bailey of Alamogordo and Brian Wilmeth of Ruidoso; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica Muniz, Dylan Muniz, Kade Bailey, Jesse Bailey, Cody Wilmeth, Justin Wilmeth, Alexandrea Baros and Kelli Wilmeth; two great-great-grandsons, Dominic Muniz and Eli Muniz-Celluer. She is also survived by a brother, Charles (Thelma) Walker of Cloudcroft; three nieces, Shirley Gibson, Timolin Burke and Kathleen Wells; her caretaker, Joy Muller, and two special friends, Marlo Stancil and Lonnie Gray.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie C. and Bessie C. Walker; her husband, Karl Patterson; a daughter, Bobby Jean Patterson and an infant daughter; a great-granddaughter Cheyenne, and a son-in-law Bill Mills.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with Joe Bouma and Charles Walker officiating.
Burial and graveside interment will follow at Sixteen Springs Cemetery. Afterwards, everyone is invited to a reception of the celebration of her life at the 16 Springs Canyon Firehouse.
Pallbearers include Chad Bailey, Kade Bailey, Dylan Muniz, Herbert Muniz, Nathanial Nowell and Samuel Aubel. Honorary pallbearers include Michael Aberle, Hollis Bynum, Dr. Brent Aday, Foye Wells and Ray Bailey,
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.

Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Sacramento Historical Museum in Cloudcroft, designated to the restoration and renovation of the Old 16 Springs Canyon Schoolhouse where Sara Jo attended school.

The Patterson family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
