Sarah Gracie Hughey was born on Feb. 26, 1934, in Glasgow, Scotland to Robert and Janet Gracie. Sally passed from this life on June 7, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Mertzon, Texas. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way in San Angelo, Texas.
Sarah was preceded in death by her twin sister, Enid; brothers, Robert and Sandy.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Thomas R. "Bob" Hughey of Dove Creek; children, Geoff Hughey and his wife Kim of New Braunfels, Texas, Tracy Hughey of San Angelo; grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, and Cameron Hughey.
Bob and Sally met in London in 1954 when Bob was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Air Force. Bob and Sally were married on March 5, 1955. Upon Bob's retirement from the Air Force they purchased a farm in Tularosa, NM in 1974. They later moved to Dove Creek in 1989 to be closer to family. Sally was a faithful and loving wife, mother, and "Bonka" to her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and unstoppable Major League Baseball fan. Sally loved America, the flag, and treasured her citizenship. She volunteered at both the Goodfellow AFB Pharmacy and the Tom Green County Library. Sally attended the First United Methodist Churches in Tularosa and Mertzon and was active in the Methodist Women's Ministries. Sally will be remembered for her gracious and unselfish spirit, always putting others before herself.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of San Angelo.
