Senie Russell Catley, 85, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at Casa Arena Blanca Nursing Center in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Senie was born on May 18, 1924 in Belton, Texas, the fourth of six children, to Willie H. Russell and Mary Louise Taylor Russell. She attended Thomas Breckenridge High School in Belton, Texas graduating in 1943. She moved to Youngstown, Ohio where she met and was married to L.V. Catley for nine years. She was a cook at several restaurants in the Youngstown Area and Parkview House in Canfield, Ohio. She retired from Strouss-Hirshberg in Youngstown, Ohio.
Senie was a dedicated church member of Centenary Methodist Church in Youngstown, Ohio, serving for many years as an usher and choir member. She planned and cooked many special event meals for the church. In her waning years you could hear her humming many old religious songs.
Senie was preceded in death by both parents; a brother, James T. Russell, of Belton, TX and a sister, Mildred L. Holcombe and her husband Eddie, of Belton, TX.
She is survived by her son, Willie "Bill" Brooks and former wife Geneva, of Alamogordo, NM; a sister, Lyda Wyly, of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Willie L. Russell, of Temple, TX and a brother, Sterling Russell, of Stockton, CA; a sister-in-law, Mittie Russell, of Belton, TX; a former sister-in-law, Irene Catley Jefferson, of Youngstown, Ohio; three grandsons, Gregory Brooks and wife Gloria of Tallahassee, FL, Darren Brooks, of Alamogordo, NM and  Eric Brooks and former wife Tina Lopez of Alamogordo, NM; three great-granddaughters, Kiara Lang of Gulfport, MS and Breanna and Bethany Brooks of Tallahassee, FL; a grandson Breland Brooks, of Tallahassee, FL.; four former great-grandchildren D.J. ,Elizabeth and Jacob Frasier and Julia Reyes of Alamogordo, NM; nieces and nephews of the Catley family in Youngstown, Ohio, the Russell families in Belton, Temple and San Antonio, Texas and the Wilkerson family of Colorado Springs, CO.
The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
