Shane Lee Collins Obituary
Shane Lee Collins joined Bonnie Marie Collins on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Shane and Bonnie were high school sweethearts and spent the rest of their lives loving each other unconditionally. They were inseparable until Bonnie passed away in December 2004. The reunion of these two partners of life is a celebration of true devotion and eternal love. Heaven is now blessed with a couple of guardian angels who will spend eternity watching over us and making sure we have some good laughs.
Shane was born in Alamogordo on Dec. 18, 1954. He worked at White Sands Forest Products as a lumber grader for 18 years.
Shane's lifelong dream was to be a truck driver, and in 1992 he and Bonnie went to truck driving school and team drove as long-distance truck drivers until 2004. They received numerous safety awards for their driving abilities. Shane continued to drive long distance after Bonnie's passing and drove until Feb. 11, 2012, when he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Shane was passionate about spending time with family and friends. He was a dad, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, friend, shoulder to lean on, gave an ear to listen and hugs were always free. Riding ATVs was one of his favorite things to do, and he covered many miles in any kind of weather - the muddier the better.
In his younger days, he was a champion mudbogger and drag racer. He modified many cars and pickup trucks, and won numerous awards at car shows for his efforts.
Wherever you saw Shane, there was usually a dachshund sidekick with him. His dogs were his partners in everything he did. Mandy, Mindy and Meagan are with Shane and Bonnie; Misti is with Shane's sister.
Shane was a devoted Cowboys fan. How about them Cowboys! He was a pool player, dancer and he loved loud music. He didn't have back seats; he had speakers.
Shane is survived by his son Dusty Collins and his wife, Michelle; granddaughter Casen; parents Nancy Collins, of Alamogordo, and Bill Collins and his wife, Emmie, of El Paso; brother Brett Collins and his wife, Betty, of Houston; sister Cheryl Petree and her son, Toby, of Alamogordo; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Teresa Van Winkle, of Alamogordo; mother-in-law Darlene Milburn; a best friend, Mark Jones, of Alamogordo; and Misti, his devoted four-legged partner.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel. Hot rods, quads and mudders are welcome. There will be a gathering at Shane's house following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CAPPED at 907 New York Ave. in Alamogordo.
We miss you terribly, Shane Collins, but we know you are where you want to be. It's all good! Until we meet again, later!
The Collins family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
