In Loving Memory of
Sherva A. "Mama Jo" Johnson
Beloved Sister and Mother
Sunrise: February 4, 1951 ~ Sunset: July 10, 2010

Sherva A. "Mama Jo" Johnson, 59 years old, was born February 4, 1951 in Tatum, Texas to Mae Effie and Clevenland Smith. She passed away peacefully, July 10, 2010 at Gerald Champion regional Medical Center in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

She was a loving and caring sister, mother, aunt and friend to so many people. She was truly loved and will be sorely missed. She had a presence about her that made you smile and let you know what a beautiful person she was. She got the nickname "Mama Jo" by having a heart of gold. She was respected by everyone she knew and met. She cared for and loved kids, even if they were not her own. She was always there to listen and would not judge you. She would take in anyone who needed help and not ask for anything in return. She had an extended family throughout Alamogordo.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Kirkland Legerald Reed and fiancé Jennifer Krieger of Grand Prairie, Texas and Joseph Mark Johnson of Topeka, Kansas; two sisters, Bobbie L. Manning of Alamogordo and Lois A. Ward of San Antonio, Texas; brother C.F. Smith and wife Sarah of Alamogordo; two granddaughters, Shawnta West and Janie S Johnson; three grandsons, Joseph Mark Johnson, III, Julian M.J. Johnson and Jaquaraius R. Johnson; one uncle, Will Smith of Tatum, Texas and two aunts, Luna B. Shaw of Longview, Texas and Dorothy Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clevenland Smith; mother, Mae Effie Schooler; sister, Paulette Peterson; brother, John L. Smith and two nephews, Kennith R. Bryant and Johnnie Ward III.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00am on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Willard Avery officiating.

Pallbearers will be Donnell Junior Bryant, C.F. Smith, James Coulter, Jeffrey Bryant, Jerel Smith and Kenneth Woods.

Honorary pallbearers include Donnell David Bryant, Aaron Populo and James Hadi.

Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.

The Johnson family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
