Longtime Red Cross volunteer
Shirley Ann Armstead, 68, of Alamogordo, departed this life Monday, April 28, 2008, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.
Shirley was born March 14, 1940, in Richmond, Ind., to Ogather and Gertrude (Curry) Thomason, both of whom preceded her in death.
She attended Richmond High School, where she graduated in 1958. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Second Baptist Church in Richmond. In 1960, Shirley married and traveled to many places, where she worked as a Red Cross volunteer for many years.
Shirley always had a smile and was full of life. She adored and loved her family and friends immensely.
Shirley will be greatly missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Alfred C. Armstead Jr., of the family home; four children, MaDonna Winfield and her husband Gerry, of Portland, Ore., Rhonda Jacobs and her husband Rudy Jake, of Alamogordo, Alfred C. Armstead III and his wife Denetta, of Portland, and Thomas Armstead and his wife Leanne, of Honolulu; nine grandchildren, Korrey and his wife Hetty, Kanisa, Karessa, Tanisha, Shandree, Thomas, James, Breonna and Jasmine; one great-grandchild "on the way"; a brother, Anthony Thomason, of Temecula, Calif.; three sisters, Carol Thomason, of Chicago, Wynona Adams and her husband Wade, of Southfield, Mich., and Kimberly Thomason, of Atlanta; and an aunt, Virginia Logan, of Richmond, Ind.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with Minister Diane Dirton officiating.
Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
