Steve Michael Sanchez Obituary

Steve Michael Sanchez, 61, blessed this world with his presence on Jan. 5, 1955. Born in Alamogordo, to Modesto and Helen Flores Sanchez, he was the youngest of four children. Not only the baby, but the baby brother to three older sisters, Lucy, Mary, and Susan. From his first breath until his last, his life was full of laughter, adventure, spontaneity, giving, and love – so much love.

Steve (as he so often said) was twice born. On March 22, 1979, Steve was born-again by the Spirit of God. His God meant everything to him. Through Steve's extravagant love, his generous heart, his encouraging words and nature, others couldn't help but feel God through his actions. He touched lives wherever he went, and everyone blessed to know him or cross paths with him was all the better for it.

This was most specially the case for his wife. After 10 years of dating (to make sure he was sure!), he married Stacy Mitchell on August 7, 2000. Two hearts, securely held together by their love for God, they grew closer to each other and closer to God each and every day.

Steve loved the outdoors, and could communicate with an owl by hooting or an elk by bugling, and found countless elk antler sheds. He loved hunting, fishing, shooting hoops, cooking (and especially eating!) and life! He had so much love for life. The lives he has touched, the encouragement he has given, the difference he has made cannot be measured in words or years and cannot be snubbed out by the sting of death, for love has no end and that is what he always gave to others.

God, in His mercy and grace, took Steve quickly on Thursday, February 4, 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Stacy, his father, Modesto, and his sisters, Lucy Braswell and Susan Whitefeather.

He was preceded in death by his precious mother, Helen, his sister Mary, and nephew Charlie King.

He is also survived by his uncles - Raymond, Tino, and Johnny Flores, nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at the New Heart Cowboy Church, 2930 N. White Sands Blvd., Alamogordo, NM with Pastor Couy Griffin and Reverend Mary Taken officiating.
