Obituary Condolences

Sue M. Burroughs, 91, passed away in Alamogordo Monday, March 1, 2010. She was born in Santa Rita and moved to Texas at the age of 2. She returned to New Mexico in 1958 with her own family.
In Alamogordo, Sue was employed in the civil service at Holloman Air Force Base. Her duties included serving as the secretary to the base commander and later the hospital commander. She retired in 1976.
She was a painter of local color. Her paintings were displayed and sold in galleries and art shows throughout the Southwest. Sue's family asked her to maintain sales records; these records reflect over 800 paintings sold, big and small. Her paintings are seen in the Alamogordo area in homes and offices.
A recent event brought pride to Sue and her family when she received recognition in celebrating her 60th AA birthday, for 60 years of sobriety.
She is survived by a daughter, Jenny Alexander; her husband, Alvin; and their two sons, Jerome and Jordan. She is also survived by her son Randy Burroughs, his wife, Gwen, and three grandchildren on that side - Leif Jones and Stacey Wardlow, of Alamogordo, and Jason Wardlow, of Tampa, Fla. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Burroughs.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with Pastor Charles Clary officiating.
Pallbearers include Jeff Rhodes, Jerry Hamel, Don Ham, Bill Parker, Pete Cook and Donald Draney. Honorary pallbearers are Herbert Hammond, Jimmie Randall, John Jones and George Atencio.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home.
The family thanks the Bee Hive Homes staff John Jones, M.D., and the staff at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center for their care giving to Sue in her times of need.
The Burroughs family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
