Alamogordo - Seventy-two year old Tammy Ernst entered Heaven's gates during her sleep on 2 December 2019 after a long time battle with COPD. She was at home under hospice care at the time of her death. Her husband, James Ernst and daughter Tina Evans were with her at the time. Tammy was born on 28 July 1947 in Waterloo, Iowa to Henry and Dorothy (Potast) Kugel.

Tammy is from a large family consisting of eight brothers, Everette Brocka (Pat), Willie Brocka (Darlene), Richard Kugel (Birdie), Kenneth Kugel (Karen), Henry C. Kugel, Jr (Judy), Robert James Kugel (Pam), Edward Kugel (Connie), and Johnny Kugel (Ruth), and one sister, Tangela Wormley. She also has many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Ernst, of 55 % years; four of her brothers, Henry, Robert, Edward, and Johnny; her sister, Tangy; her two daughters, Tina Evans and Tela Cooper and their husbands; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She married the love of her life, James (Jim) Ernst on 13 June 1964 and spent the next seventeen years as a devoted military wife. Together they had two daughters, Tina Rae Evans (Douglas) and Tela Fae Cooper (Steven) and one stillborn son, James Allan Ernst, Jr. This union resulted in thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. .>

Tammy was a devout Christian and a strong supporter of all of Jim's many community activities. She was a member of the New Mexico Patriot Guard Riders and even held a flag at many Military funerals while she was in a wheelchair. When she was able, she worked in the food pantry at church distributing food to the needy.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, 15 December 2019 beginning at 2:00 P.M. -at Scenic Chapel, 1334 North Scenic Drive, Alamogordo, NM. A funeral service, officiated by AI Maxey, will be conducted at the Cuba Avenue Church of Christ, ~ 300 Cuba Avenue, Alamogordo, NM on 16 December 2019 beginning at 10~00 A.M. Following the service, a procession lead by the Patriot Guard will travel to Fort Stanton State Veterans' Cemetery, Kit Carson Road, Fort Stanton, NM where interment will take place.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a donation be sent, in Tammy's name, to either the New Mexico Patriot Guard Riders, 1730 Van Court, Alamogordo, NM 88310 or the Cuba Avenue Church of Christ Food Pantry, Box 117, Alamogordo, NM 88311.

Funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Scenic Chapel.
