Tammy Sue (Quimby) Mitchell

Obituary Condolences

She has been and will always be the heart of this family's existence
Tammy Sue (Quimby) Mitchell, 45, of Alamogordo, passed from where she wanted to be and into the Lord's grace Tuesday, April 21, 2009. She was born June 24, 1963, in Springfield, Vt., to Wilbur and Barbara Sanford (Warner) Quimby.
Tammy was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Her heart was filled with pride for all of her children, especially when her granddaughter Nevaeh came into their lives. Before her health prevented Tammy from continuing, she enjoyed the health care profession with deep conviction. She loved to help people through her voice with compassion and a gentle, caring touch. Tammy graduated from high school in 1981 and participated in the high school band.
Tammy was a proud American who loved her country and was dedicated to her patriotism. This was only paralleled by her faith as a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Alamogordo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Debbie Lynn Quimby Gordon.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald J. L. Mitchell Jr., of the family home; two daughters, Krystal Ann Crace and husband, Anthony, of Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, and Sarah Marie Dirickson and husband, Michael, and a granddaughter, Nevaeh Dirickson, all of Comanche, Texas; her mother, Elle Mae O'Hara, of Edgewater, Fla.; two brothers, Rip Quimby, of Rutland, Vt., and Floyd Quimby, of Chester, Vt.; a sister, Sherry Watmough, of Warren, Maine; two sons, Shawn M. Mitchell, of Indiana, and Ronald Mitchell III, of Illinois; father-in-law Ronald Mitchell Sr., of Maple Heights, Ohio; mother-in-law Nellie Mitchell, of Cleveland; her confidant, Linda Peterson, of Dennison, Texas; and the special people in her life, Tammy May, Sue Compo, Randy Peterson, the father of Krystal and Sarah, Larry and Tresa VanWinkle, Robert and Debbie Hayman, Ward and Carol Kenyon, Myk and Sylvia Polson, and John and Carole Croker.
A celebration of Tammy's life will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Sgt. Willie Estrada Memorial Civic Center, 800 E. First St. in Alamogordo.
In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Cancer Awareness, Prevalence, Prevention and Early Detection (CAPPED) organization in memory of Tammy Mitchell and Debbie Gordon; 907 New York Ave., Alamogordo, NM 88310/www.capped.org.
The Mitchell family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
