Thomas Arthur Bernicke Obituary

Thomas Arthur Bernicke, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at the Avalon Memory Care facility in Carrollton, Texas, following a long battle against Alzheimer's disease.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Diane (Wieland) Bernicke, his sons Tony Bernicke and Amberlynne Eaton, Tim (Karen) Bernicke, son-in-law, Van Inman and daughters Traci Inman, and Tricia (Jason) Barton.

Tom also leaves behind his grandchildren, Cameron, Bailey, and Briana Inman, Taryn and Jordyn Bernicke, Allyson and Evan Bernicke, Kensley Barton. D'art Sinclair and two special boys Paul and Peter. His sisters, Mary Jo (Don) Amundson, and Susan (Bill) Anderson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Burnett and Joan Bernicke, his in-laws LaVerne and Clara Wieland, baby sister Sally, brother in laws Bob Stelter and Duane Wieland and nephew Todd Amundson.

Tom was born and raised in Eau Claire, Wis. After graduation from Memorial High School in 1958, he joined the National Guard serving his country for 9 years while attending the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where he received a bachelor's degree in business in 1962.

Early in his career he worked for Uniroyal Tire Company in the Human Resources department. In 1964, Tom accepted a job as assistant personal manager at National Presto Industry based in Eau Claire, Wis. In 1972, he received a promotion that moved his young family to Alamogordo, N.M., to become personal and production manager at their new factory. In 1987, he became the General Manager for Presto. He treated his employees like extended family and earned their respect and loyalty because of his willingness to work alongside them not from a desk. He retired in 2002 and was awarded a plaque for perfect work attendance for 38 years.

Tom's family was the love of his life and the light in his eyes. When he wasn't spending time with his wife or spoiling his grandkids you could find him on the golf course, doing yard work, or being the household handyman.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 3 p.m., at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel with Tom McMurry officiating.

The Bernicke family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home, Inc. to direct the funeral services.
