Thomas Clark Banister Obituary
Thomas Clark Banister went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend to many.
Tom was born to John D. and Geraldine Elizabeth (Clark) Banister on Jan. 11, 1952, in Artesia. He attended school in Artesia and was always a fan of the Bulldogs, but supported the "home teams" in Alamogordo and Tularosa most Friday nights when he wasn't working. Tom worked as a police officer, DJ, then decided to pursue a career as a butcher. Tom moved to Tularosa in the 1970s where he worked as a butcher at the H & J. There he met his wife, Nancy, after capturing his soon to be son's heart with "butcher candy." Tom and Nancy married in 1977 and lived in Tularosa, where they had their second son, Bryan. The family soon moved to La Luz where the family home remains. Tom worked in Alamogordo for most of his career at many local grocery stores, including Big 8, Albertson's, Van Winkle's IGA and most recently Lowe's grocery store. Through the years, Tom has met and made many friends who were very dear to his heart. Anytime someone came to see Tom he always met them with a smile.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, of the family home; two sons, Matthew Staples and wife, Nicholle, and Bryan Banister and wife, Lisa; and three grandsons, Bryton and Brenden Staples and Zachry Banister. He is also survived by his mother, Geraldine Elizabeth Banister, of Artesia; sister Mary Sue Kuykendall and husband, Bill, also of Artesia; two brothers, Johnny and wife, Barbara, of Collins, Miss., and Ken and wife, Judy, of Torrington, Wyo.; a sister-in-law, Mary Potter, of Tularosa; brother-in-law Ralph Sawyer Jr., of Tularosa; sister-in-law Mary Jo Sawyer, of Tularosa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Banister.
