Tranquilino S. "Trankie" Montoya Sr. Obituary
Trankie Montoya, a longtime Ruidoso resident, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, in Alamogordo surrounded by his family.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1925, in Arabella to Doroteo and Balvina (Silva) Montoya.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He worked as a cook at Fort Stanton and later worked at Lincoln County Medical Center, where he retired.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Samuel and Cosme; sisters Lorenzita Salisbury and Josephine Baca; daughter Kathy Herrera; son-in-law Roy Baca and grandson Joseph Duran.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of the family home; sons Gilbert and wife, Pasty, of Capitan, and Trankie Jr. and wife, Brenda, of La Luz; daughters Cindy Ford and husband, Bill, of Picacho, Verla Silva and husband, Modesto, of Ruidoso Downs, Patsy Godinez and husband, Buddy, of Santa Fe, and Teresa Baca, of Capitan; 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.   
A memorial service will be held for Trankie at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at Gateway Church of Christ in Ruidoso.
The Montoya family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
