Valerie Futch Smith, 34, of Ludowici, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, in the Candler Hospital in Savannah, Ga., after a short illness. The Otero County native was a resident of Long County, Ga., for the past 20 years, was a first grade teacher at Smiley Elementary School in Ludowici, Ga., and was a member of the Tibet Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband of 12 years, Jimmy Smith; a son, Trysten Smith; her father, Mike Futch, all of Ludowici; her mother and father, Nancy and Paul Jarka, of Alamogordo; two brothers, William Hank Futch, of Fort Bliss, Texas, and Carl Jarka, of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Brandy Futch Swann and Trina Strempke, both of Alamogordo, and Jessica Blanchard, of Las Cruces; maternal grandmother Clara Zamora, of Alamogordo; paternal grandparents, Margaret Bullard, of Ludowici, and M. F. and Jeannie Futch, of Shellman Bluff, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at the Ludowici First Baptist Church with Revs. Paul Weldon, Eric Rentz and Fred Vedingfield officiating. Interment will be in the Jones Creek Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Justin Hall, Clint Baxter, Buddy Reddish, Carl Futch, David Futch and Daryl Futch.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday from the Ludowici First Baptist Church.

The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup, Ga., is in charge of the arrangements.
