Vicki Lynn Underwood Obituary
Vicki Lynn Underwood passed away Friday, June 17, 2011, in Albuquerque after a short battle with ovarian cancer. She was born Oct., 23, 1951, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Ralph and Euna Francis (Duke) Jones.
She was a graduate of North High School in Bakersfield and received her Bachelor of Science in business management from University Campus, University of Maryland.
She was married to Kenneth Carpenter, Rafael Cabezas and lastly, on June 16, 1990, to Lenoy Underwood in Austin, Texas.
Vicki loved to travel, particularly during the time she lived in Italy and England. She was a retail sales associate for Army and Air Force Exchange Service at Holloman Air Force Base since 2003 and was in charge of furniture and large appliances. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in High Rolls and loved all her Christian brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her father; two uncles, Jon Duke and Charles Duke; and her grandparents.
Vicki is survived by husband, Len, and her beloved babies Honey, Peaches, Ace, Max and Juse, of the family home; her mother, Euna Hague, of Royce City, Texas; uncle Jim Duke and wife, Connie, of Munising, Mich.; children Scott Carpenter, of Vancouver, Wash., Dawn Marie Carpenter Tarvas, of Ada, Okla., Chris Cabezas, of Marietta, Ga., and Andy Cabezas and wife, Melanie, of Cedar Park, Texas; stepchildren Melanie Gleason and husband, Brian, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Brian Underwood, of Goodyear, Ariz.; brothers and sisters Michael Jones, of Fresno, Calif., Linda Shipley, of Royce City, Cindy Ruiz, of Richardson, Texas, and David Hague, of Spring, Texas; grandmother-in-law Mary Lockhart, of Artesia; stepbrothers and sisters Tommy Underwood, of Abilene, Texas, Cinomon Norrell and husband, Kirby, of Wildorado, Texas, Carroll Underwood and wife, Ronda, of Redmond, Ore., Rocky Underwood, of Llano, Texas, Sandy "Nanny Boo Boo" Smith and husband, Peavine, of Lake Stamford, Texas, Chico Underwood and wife, Rochie, of Stamford, Texas, Dena Purvis and husband, Ron, of Abilene, Texas, Bo Underwood and wife, Jamie, of Escalon, Calif., and Nina Reeves and husband, Norm, of Midland, Texas; 12 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A lover of all animals, and Chinese shar-pei in particular, donations to ASPCA in lieu of flowers would make her happy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Billy Tucker officiating. Interment will follow at James Canyon Cemetery outside Cloudcroft.
The Underwood family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
