After his retirement he and his wife spent a few years with the Laborer's for Christ for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod traveling around the United States.
He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alamogordo, serving on the church board, the district board and as the Lutheran Church Extension Fund representative. He was a life member of NARFE, Chapter 698. He volunteered for 10 years at the Space Hall of Fame. His favorite pastimes were camping, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Darlene; his son Wes and wife, Cindy; his daughter Sandy and husband, Dan; his grandchildren Jason and wife, Rachel, Aaron and wife, Lisa, Zachary, Maria Oberling, Jacob and Amanda Viscarra and Kyle and Carey Jameson; one great-grandchild, Aaron Oberling; his brother-in-law Jim and his wife, Ruth Aden; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brother Kay and sister Joan; and sister-in-law Janice Houston.
A Celebration of Joy service will be held Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Donavon W. "Bill" Heihthold officiating.
Private interment will take place in Monte Vista Cemetery with military honors provided by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard.
It was Vince's wish that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to Alzheimer's Research, Chapter 698, c/o Juanita Carver, 1404 Jefferson Ave., Alamogordo, NM 88310 or Trinity Lutheran Church, 1505 College Ave., Alamogordo, NM 88310.
The family expresses their appreciation to the staff of Casa Arena Blanca Nursing Home for their compassionate care over the past year.
