Virginia Robertson, 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 in Las Cruces. She was born on April 16, 1918 to Daniel Webster and Alma (Bosher Ennis) Fraley. Virginia lead a very interesting life, graduating from Roosevelt High School in Hawaii in June of 1937. She did her nurses training at Franklin Hospital and San Francisco, CA receiving her nursing degree in 1940. Virginia was very proud of being the sweetheart of Sigma Chi Fraternity of San Jose College. She worked as a nurse in Austin, TX, The Rocky Mt. Arsenal of CO, and the Alamogordo Army Airfield, in New Mexico now known as Holloman Air Force Base. She was very active in the community as a charter member of Gerald Champion Medical Hospital Auxiliary, past president and 59 year, life member of the Alamogordo Women's Club, corresponding secretary of GFWC, New Mexico, past Matron of the Order of The Eastern Star, past Worth Grand of the Rebecca's. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church while her children were growing up. She owned and operated six health food stores in 1960's and 70's. She was on the senior Olympic swim team and won many gold medals; she loved animals and loved to dance.
Virginia met and later married Jack Stagner in 1941, who was a Pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was killed in 1943 in World War II . She later met and married Dr. B. Harvey Robertson, DDS and was his nurse for several years.
Virginia is survived by her sons, George Robertson and fiancé, Diane Ziegler of Glendale, Ariz. and Steven L. Stagner and his wife, Mary-Anne of Winsted, Conn.; a daughter, Sandy Knafelc of Colo.; grandchildren, Monoca Robertson Stackhouse and her husband, Todd of Rio Rancho, James Robertson and wife, Christina of Albuquerque, C. Michael Alex and wife, Catherine of Las Vegas, Nev., Brian Alex of Orlando, FL, Sean Stagner and wife, Sandra, and Stephanie Pierce and husband, James; great-grandchildren, Justin Robertson, Benjamin Harvey Robertson, II and Jeanie Robertson, Eric Pierce and Ryan Pierce and Brandon Adams and a sister, Ruth Glisson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Stagner in 1943, second husband, Benjamin Harvey Robertson, DDS, her mother and father, her daughter, JoAnn (Canter) Alex; three brothers, Wilton, Bill and Louis Fraley and a sister, Phyllis Chappell.
Virginia was an active lady and loved by all who knew her. She was gentle, gracious and kind.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Ray Sharp Officiating.
Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2008, at Alamogordo Funeral Home.
