Viva Beth Palm Obituary

Viva Beth Palm passed away at the age of 89 years on August 30, 2015 Alamogordo. She was born on October 7, 1925 in Farmersburg, IN to William and Elsie Spillman Curry.

A WWII bride married her husband Maxwell Palm, a U.S. Army Air Force Master Sergeant of Albany, Texas, on July 20, 1943 in Terre Haute, Sullivan County, Indiana. She was a resident of the La Luz/Alamogordo area since 1951. She retired as cook from the Otero County Jail where she worked for 15 years. In 1990 she built a new home in La Luz, at last realizing her life- long dream of owning her own home. She was a devoted hard working woman who raised 6 very independent and strong willed children along with caring for her stroke disabled husband from 1962 until his passing in 1996. She will be sincerely missed by her family and friends and she often said that she wanted to be remembered as a good mother.

Survivors include her two sons, George Eric Palm and wife Sheila of Slidell, L.A., and Kelvin M. Palm of La Luz, N.M.; four daughters, Elsie M. Persall and husband Robert of Woodward, Okla., Karen B. Palm of La Luz, Ingrid M. McMackin and husband Kevin of Slidell, L.A., and Rosalind Halliburton and husband Richard of Hobbs, N.M.; 10 grandchildren, Justin and Bobbie Persall, Michael McMackin and Megan McMackin Story and husband John, Aaron, Trent and Brieanna Palm, Brian Halliburton and wife Ashley, Suzanne Halliburton Basquez and husband Gerardo, and Valerie Halliburton Leeper and husband Sean; eight great grandchildren and a ninth one due in March of 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell Palm; infant son Maxwell Palm, Jr.; father, William Elza Curry; mother, Elsie Fay Curry, sister, Doris L. Austin of Hamilton, Ill.; and brother, George T. Curry of North Point, Fla.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2015, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Moon officiating.
Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Brian Halliburton, Sean Leeper, Richard Halliburton and Gerardo Basquez.

The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-Odell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
